Gothic symbols: ankh cross

The ankh appears frequently in Egyptian tomb paintings and other art, often at the fingertips of a god or goddess in images that represent the deities of the afterlife & is very used with the person in a gothic subculture.

This symbol is one of the most known symbols of ancient Egypt and it is often used as the graphic synonym for this ancient culture. Due to this context, as well as due to the fact that many pictures of Egyptian gods and goddesses contained the symbol ankh in their hands, this symbol was adopted as a symbol of modern religion called Kemetism (although different Gnostic sects have been using this symbol since before Coptic times, and it is still in use by them today), which is reconstructing the ancient Egyptian religion at the present. Many neo-pagan, New Age, and pagan sects wear the ankh as a symbol of power and wisdom or to show that they honor the Egyptian pantheon. It is commonly seen in jewelry such as rings and necklaces and despite its earlier uses it is cast in silver (versus the gold or copper the ancients used).
The Ankh is a frequently recurring element in the video game series Ultima, where it represents power and virtue, often being the subject of worship by the game's NPCs.
Also in the MMORPG game World of Warcraft, it is used for characters known as shamans, as a reagent for a spell called reincarnation.
A stylized ankh is also the symbol of the gothic metal band Theatres des Vampires.

Gothic Symbols: Blair Witch

Maybe you heard or whatched the movie The Bair Witch Proyect when In october 1994, three students filmmakers disappeared in the woods near Burkkitsville,Maryland while shooting a documentary & a year later their footage was found.

The Legend of the Blair Witch began in 1785 with Elly Kedwardwho immigrated over to the town known as Blair (United States) from Ireland.

The Blair citizens found out that she was luring the children into her house and drawing blood from them, so she was conviced of performing witchcraft. After she was conviced she was banished to the woods. By the end of that winter most of the children of Blair suddenly disappeared. The townspeople blamed the witch and proclaimed the township of Blair and the Black Woods as cursed.

The Blair Witch symbol is a five-pointed compound symbol. Its center trianglre is pointing down. The five lines resemble the microcosmic man with arms and legs outstretched inside a circle (with a pentagram in the background)-- a magic symbol or charm among medieval alchemists and wizards. Also, it might have been a a magic symbol among medieval alchemists and wizards.

Gothic Symbols : Inverted Cross

Inverted cross: The Cross of St. Peter or Petrine Cross is an inverted Latin cross traditionally used as a Christian symbol, but in recent times also used widely as an anti-Christ symbol

The origin of this symbol comes from the Catholic tradition that Simon Peter was crucified upside down, as told by Origen of Alexandria. The tradition first appears in the "Martyrdom of Peter", a fragmented text found in, but likely predating, the apocryphal Acts of Peter, which was written no later than 200 A.D. It is believed that Peter requested this form of crucifixion as he felt he was unworthy to be crucified in the same manner that Christ died (upright). As such, some Catholics use this cross as a symbol of humility and unworthiness in comparison to Christ.

It has also often become associated with Satanic and anti-religious attitudes, as it is considered to represent the opposite of Christianity by inverting its primary symbol, the Latin Cross. As a result, this symbol has become very popular within anti-religion groups and among some extreme metal musicians, notably black metal groups. In popular culture, including films such as Rosemary's Baby, Exorcist: The Beginning and The Omen, Petrine Crosses are often displayed to represent Satan. Coincidental with this Satanic imagery, not only is Saint Peter the source of the inverted cross symbolism in Christianity, but Jesus once referred to Peter as "Satan"
also can be found in earrings, rings, necklaces and clothing
